From May 3 to 9, 2021, our mates Down Under are celebrating Privacy Awareness Week 2021 under the theme,“Make privacy a priority”.
Since Australia is one of our many valued markets for MySudo—the world’s only all-in-one privacy app—and Anonyome Labs’ has a development lab on the beautiful Gold Coast, Queensland—we’re showing our support for this annual event that highlights the importance of protecting personal information.
This year’s campaign is an important reminder that safeguarding data is more essential than ever, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the way we work and socialize, with many Australians—like so many people all around the world—spending more time online.
Australia does a great job at protecting its peoples’ privacy. For instance, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner is the world’s first government regulatory agency committed to keeping its citizens safer online. Its role is to help all Australians to have safer, more positive experiences online.
Australia also has the Privacy Act 1988 which was introduced to promote and protect the privacy of individuals and to regulate how Australian Government agencies and organizations with an annual turnover of more than $3 million, and some other organizations, handle personal information (as defined in Australia).
About this year’s Privacy Awareness Week, the Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner,Angelene Falk, said:
“We know that for most Australians, privacy is a major concern, and it is front of mind when choosing a digital service. But our Australian Community Attitudes to Privacy Survey 2020 also found that many people aren’t clear on how to protect their personal information.
Businesses and other organisations covered by the Privacy Act have flexibility in how they meet their privacy obligations, depending on their size and circumstances – but there are privacy fundamentals that will help build trust among their customers and the community.
That’s why our campaign for 2021 focuses on sharing helpful and effective tips to help everyone create good privacy practices, at home and at work.”
